About me

I'm Programme Leader for English and Media Writing at Southampton Solent University. I teach radio and sound production, marketing and creative skills for students in advertising, public relations and music promotion.

I'm also the Visiting Professor of Web Radio and Television at the University of Sassari in Sardinia. I've just finished a project with Italian students who are producing features in English about students' music tastes in Italy which will be broadcast on Radio Sonar, the student radio station at Southampton Solent University.

I worked at 2CR, Two Counties Radio, in Bournemouth (now Heart, Bournemouth) as a Senior Journalist for about ten years.

I also produced items for radio stations in New York and New Zealand as well as making contributions to LBC/IRN and providing reports and features for other stations in the Independent Radio network.

I am a member of four professional education and business organisations. I'm a Chartered Marketer with the Chartered Institute of Marketing, an Accredited Practitioner of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

I'm also currently Chair of the Radio Academy South, the regional branch of the Radio Academy and was a judge for last year's Sony Radio Academy Nations and Regions Award.

My publications include "Schools in the Spotlight", a media relations guide for head teachers and school governors, and "Sound, music and radio in the creative curriculum" which appeared in the HEA journal "Networks".
